Biography
Penelope Lynex was a pupil of Paul Tortelier
in Paris, after graduating from the Royal Academy of Music, London, where she
won all the cello prizes and was awarded the Suggia Scholarship. She also
received a Countess of Munster Trust award. She studied in Pablo Casals'
Masterclasses for two summers and Paul Tortelier later described her as one of
the most talented pupils he had taught. Penelope Lynex has performed in Europe,
the USA, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand.
Known for her radiant
tone, musicianship and bravura, her unusually large repertoire includes works
dedicated to her by several composers. She performs and teaches in the UK
and abroad, directs courses, and also writes, adjudicates and gives
masterclasses.
She has composed cadenzas for
the classical cello concertos. A dedicated teacher, her publications now selling
internationally include Cello Ideas: A
Practical Guide and 20 Carols for a Cellist and Friends.
